Freeze Committee FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)


General Information
When does the Freeze Committee meet?
The Freeze Committee meets every Friday morning.

How does the freeze affect the Student Activity Fund (SAF) purchases?
The freeze does not affect purchases SAF funded purchases.

Positions
What about people interviewed before the freeze?
If the offer was extended prior to the freeze, they can be hired.

What about Special Education one-on-one aides in the classroom, speech pathologists and occupational therapists?
Special Education positions listed above, and working directly with students in the schools will be allowed to be filled without Freeze Committee approval.

What about game supervision?
Game supervision or other commitments scheduled prior to the commencement of the freeze can be honored. Continue your current schedules until notified otherwise.

What about filling vacant bus driver positions?
Transportation may fill “existing” bus driver positions without having prior Freeze Committee approval. Any new, additional bus driver positions will require Freeze Committee approval.

Overtime and Related
What about overtime for bus drivers?
Only emergency overtime is permitted. A request for overtime can be forwarded to the Freeze Committee and if the Committee decides that the situation warrants overtime, then it will be granted. Scheduled overtime for bus drivers is permissible, with advance approval by the Freeze Committee.

What about overtime for hourly Nutrition Services workers?
Only emergency overtime is permitted. All emergency overtime must be preapproved by Nutrition Services Management prior to being worked and later by the Chief Financial Officer.

What about overtime for all other classified workers (other than the bus drivers and Nutrition services workers discussed above)?
Administrators are directed by the Superintendent to curtail other classified overtime work unless there is an emergency situation. Administrators are required to obtain prior approval from the appropriate member of the Executive Cabinet and Freeze Committee before authorizing an employee to work overtime (or by the Friday of the week the emergency overtime commences). Overtime should only be requested in emergency situations.
